Unity Sports Boosters Club
Minutes of Meeting October 12, 2011
The Unity Sports Boosters Club met on Wednesday, October
12, 2011, in the Middle School cafeteria. President Klusmeyer called the meeting
to order with 18 members present.
The secretary’s report from September was
approved by Sherri Fuller and 2nd by Brad Begeman.
The treasurer’s report was given by Julie
McAllister. She reported a
beginning balance of $15,386.63 with receipts of $1,570.37, and disbursements of
$588.55. The ending balance is
$16,368.45. The report was approved by Matt Woodworth and 2nd by Dianna
Rush.
Membership: current membership is 68.
Old business:
· Homecoming float: won first place and were
under budget - spent $85.
· HOF: met the last week of September - selections were made - Gary Brickman, Gary
Evans and the 89-90 basketball team. There will only be three new inductions a
year from now on, so a new wall display will have to be made.
Planning to substitute individual plaques for each inductee so they are
all equal sizes. Will
be checking into that and will discuss at next meeting.
·
Football restrooms: Seth has checked with Mr. Dorethy but nothing has been
done. Carothers suggested having the character champions get together and
paint the bathrooms. Possibly they could be power washed by senior night and
painted by next season. Brad Begeman suggested asking Ryan Kennedy since he has
the equipment ready to go.
· Basketball cheerleaders: Peggy Duesterhaus reported that they have always been allowed
to compete, they just haven't chosen to for a few years.
The athletic dept. will cover their fees. This item
will be removed from Sports Boosters’ agenda.
· MVIT: Donna Jansen: several committee chairs
will remain in their position.
o bus parking Unity sportsman's
club may handle the. Matt Woodworth says they have agreed to do it, but not officially.
o honorary coach head - Richard will ask Paul Bealor. Honorary coach
committee also needs to get the snacks - Richard and Seth will cover that.
o pizza night Sherri Fuller agreed to handle.
o Hospitality room Tammy Hildebrand wants
to retire after 14 years.
Plan to find someone younger. Could be several
people, and Tammy will help them get started.
o Cheerleading award – will ask middle school
cheerleading sponsor Bobbette Keefe to handle.
o Music playing committee Possibly Matthew Walker could do.
o Floor sweepers Seth Klusmeyer will find some.
New business:
· Colt Classic hospitality room: asking for $50
- Donna Jansen made motion, Peggy Duesterhaus 2nd, motion
carried.
· CD up for renewal: (just one)
Seth
Klusmeyer made motion to renew, Brad Begeman 2nd.
Motion carried.
· Uniform schedule: Girls basketball
will be listed as one unit rather than Varsity and JV as they often move girls
around. Boys want to buy 15 new for Varsity and pass the old to the JV. Previously we used a five year
schedule, Seth has consolidated it to a four year schedule.
Seth and Julie McAllister suggested that the teams
give the sports boosters half the money up front and set a limit of $1000 each.
Dollar amounts will be negotiated by sport, since basketball uniforms are more
expensive, needing 2 per player.
· Boys' basketball uniforms – Keith Carothers: They definitely need new JV
uniforms. He would rather pass
old uniforms down to JV so it is more of an honor for the varsity.
The cost is $3200 total. Motion to pay made by
Susan Blickhan, 2nd by Sherri Fuller.
· Middle School Gym scoreboard – Is basically dead. Light bulbs smoke when moved
around. Price for 2 new LED
scoreboards is $5400. The athletic department has enough to pay for them, but asking for
$1000 from sports boosters to help with. Julie McAllister made motion to
approve, Marcia Cornwell 2nd. Motion carried.
Coach’s reports:
Matt Woodworth: Varsity football is 4-3 JV has won 1-2.
The last two games – at Carrollton and West Central at home won’t be
easy, but should be winnable.
Hopefully they will make the playoffs with a 6-3 record and have a better
draw in the playoffs. Hoping for
injured players to be back next week.
JV games have been cancelled because of numbers of ineligible
players.
Brad Begeman: Brad 5th and 6h are 7-1 7th and 8th are undefeated.
Brad helped with 7th and 8th last week, and they are playing very
well.
Seth Klusmeyer: Freshmen are 7-2 varsity
18-4 8-0 in the conference. They are seeded 2nd in
regional. Regionals begin last full week of
October.
Keith Carothers: Nothing to report – non football players have started
lifting. Many are playing football this year, which he is happy about.
Greg Hildebrand: parent meeting was held Monday. There are around 20 out for 7th and 8th and lots of them are playing
football. 1st practice is Monday. Rex Truebe tournament starts Oct. 31.
5th and 6th have good numbers.
Last thoughts:
Donna Jansen: After prom will have two bake sales next week, at Thursday’s
volleyball game and Friday’s football game.
Motion to adjourn made by Greg Hildebrand and Keith Carothers.
Next mtg. November 9, 7:00 p.m. in the MS cafeteria.
