Minutes of Meeting September 11, 2014
The Unity Sports Boosters Club met on Thursday, September 11, in the Middle School Cafeteria. President Klusmeyer called the meeting to order with 17 members present.
The secretary’s report was given by Sarah Donley, and approved by Brad Begeman and Craig Burwinkel.
The treasurer’s report was given by Kelly Miller and approved by Donna Jansen and Rob Kuhn.
Membership: current membership is 79.
Old business:
- Discount
card for 2014-15 school year: Christina reported that we are at $5,500
profit so far. Some cards are still outstanding. Hoping for $6000 or above. Since the high
school athletes had the cards for a few months, she and Brad Voth decided to
find another fund raiser for the middle school. She suggested we could make a
larger profit by finding our own sponsors and having our own cards
printed. The cost would be about $1 per
card. The incentives are very expensive.
She suggested forming a committee to explore taking it over and also
said that it would be easier to sell a $10 card than a $15 one.
- Football
pork chop stand: Donna still needs help – 4 total workers. Still considering adding another menu item.
- School
Sports Transportation support: We are expecting to bring in around
$20-25,000 with the upcoming events.
Richard suggested we offer $5000 towards transportation twice a year,
once in the fall and one in the spring. Christina liked the idea of offering a
set amount and dividing it into two installments. Rob Kuhn moved that we table a motion until
we have done some investigation into how it will be distributed.
New business:
- Homecoming
parade: Richard volunteered his truck to drive in the parade and to buy the
candy to be thrown, with a $50 limit on candy.
Richard will find the banners.
- Move
Checking Account: motion was made by Brad Begeman and 2nd by
Missy Voth to move the checking account from the Ursa bank to Town &
Country, for easier access by the treasurer.
- Fund
Raising picnic: Richard presented the idea of holding a fundraising picnic
at the fairgrounds, possibly serving fried fish, this would help in providing
support for the transportation. Tracy Cornwell suggested looking into putting a
stand down by the show barns during the fair, as there currently is not a close
place to buy a drink. Craig Burwinkel
suggested that if we have a not for profit number, that we could buy an ATV to
raffle off through the year, and possibly do the drawing at the picnic. All
items left open for discussion at next meeting.
- Written
requests for amounts over $500: These written requests would need to be made available before the meeting and submitted
to Christina (or Brad Voth if middle school request). Rob Kuhn suggested taking
it a step further and asking all sports to declare what they will be needing
for the upcoming year, allowing the club to budget. Rob also made a motion that the amount to be
made in writing should be $200. Seconded
by Donna Jansen. Richard made a motion
that the requests be funneled through the AD. Motion was approved.
AD Report: Christina reported receiving memorial money from the families of Rob Duncan and Bill Evans.
Rob Kuhn: 20 girls started middle school basketball last week. Expecting a good season.
